Three Tips For Stress-Free Moving

Professional Movers Will Appreciate These Details When It’s Time To Pack Up

Moving can be a stressful and hectic experience even at the best of times. Sometimes it feels like no matter how much you’ve planned ahead and organized, everything goes out the window once you get down to packing and packing. Thankfully, hiring a team of professional movers can take a lot of the stress out of the situation. A professional moving company has the knowledge and experience required to keep every move smooth and stress-free, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take a few steps of your own.

Here are a few tips on how to streamline your moving process before the movers come in:

Dress Down Dressers

While it’s tempting to keep dresser drawers packed to simplify your move, unless you secure each drawer, they’re an accident waiting to happen. It’s best to transfer the contents of each drawer into another box or container and set the drawers aside to let the movers get on with moving the dresser. It’ll cut down on the weight, and your movers will save time and energy, letting them get the job done faster.

Planning Ahead

The last thing you want to deal with is furniture that won’t fit through a door frame, so take the time to do some measuring ahead of time. You’ll have a better understanding of what you’ll need to disassemble and maneuver through doors and hallways.

It’s also worth looking into using a service elevator to simplify moving into a new apartment. Many buildings will let you use this for larger items, and the doors will stay open longer for greater ease of use. Alternatively, you can ask the building manager to reserve a standard elevator for a period of time and have it operate the same way.

Finally, let your neighbours know you’re going to have a moving truck out front if it’s going to interfere with street parking. It’s the courteous thing to do, and they may even offer to move their vehicles to simplify the process.

Label

This last hint may not affect your packing process, but it will pay dividends when moving your boxes to your new place and unpacking them in the correct room. Be sure to either write on your boxes or print labels with the correct room the box should be going to. This will help reduce stress should movers misplace boxes, allowing you to unpack without searching through every box in your new home.

By properly packing items, planning ahead, and labelling boxes, not only will you save the headache that most moving days cause, you’ll stay in your moving company’s good graces by being the perfect clinet. This way, the light at the end of the tunnel will come sooner rather than later, and you can move on to enjoying your new home.
