An Ottawa Moving Company’s Perspective on Communities
Although it’s less populated that other Canadian cites, moving within Ottawa can still be a significant event. This is particularly true if you’re no longer single, and your decision will affect your family. When it comes to choosing your next destination, there are many factors to consider. You’ll want to take into account safety, community amenities and resources, distance to the city centre, and proximity to nature, opportunities for business and employment, among other things.
As an Ottawa moving company that has been relocating people and business around the National Capital since 1993, we have a good understanding of what the various neighborhoods have to offer. We hope that you’ll find useful this shortlist of Ottawa Valley neighborhoods to relocate to, and some of the area’s highlights.
- West Carleton
West Carleton is situated about 20 km from downtown Ottawa, in the north-west end of the city, alongside the Ottawa River.. This neighbourhood is quiet, quaint and is great for growing families. The area has many rural estate homes, small farms, and lots to explore outdoors. If you love nature trails, farmer’s markets and a small town vibe, this could be your spot. If you’re considering a move to this part of the national capital, check with an Ottawa moving company for a quote.
- Osgoode
Osgood is a small rural area located in the southern end of Ottawa, just two kilometers from the Rideau River. Up until 2001 it was part of the Osgood Township, after which time it was converted into an Ottawa municipality. The region boasts affordable housing, excellent schools, and community programs. It’s a small but growing community or under 3000 residents, but it’s a place to keep your eye on.
- Stittsville
Stittsville is located in the southwest part of Kanata and is nearly 31 km from downtown Ottawa. Luckily, public transportation offers direct routes to downtown, making the commute reasonable and relatively quick. Another advantage of living in Stittsville is that there is French language programming in secondary schools, which is especially important for families with children. Stittsville is also a thriving community that offers many exciting activities and things to do for people of all ages.
- Kanata North
Kanata is the largest suburb of Ottawa and continues to grow. It’s located about 22km from downtown Ottawa and has many draws. Primarily, it’s the home to the National Capital’s very strong tech sector. Kanata is also home to the Canadian Tire Centre, where you can watch an Ottawa Senators hockey game. For those who love shopping there’s also the famous Tanger Outlets where you can easily spend a day. If you’re thinking of moving to this charming suburb, an Ottawa moving company can certainly help ease the transition.
- Barrhaven
Since 2001, Barrhaven has been one of Ottawa’s most fast-growing suburb located in the south-west area. This welcoming neighbourhood is located a 25 minutes commute to downtown Ottawa and only 10 minutes to Kanata. This area is very well surrounded, in fact, you will find all you need for your family at the Strandherd Drive and Greenbank Road intersection including, but not limited to: clothing stores, coffee shops, bookstores, grocery stores, office supply stores, home decoration stores, restaurants, and a cinema. It’s playfully referred to as “FARhaven”, but really, it’s a quick drive to Ottawa’s city centre.
