Perhaps one of the most important moving tips is always to start planning your move as soon as possible. Thorough planning is even more critical when you’re on a tight budget. As soon as you know that you’ll be moving, compile a list of everything you’ll need and where you’ll need to save money the most. When you give yourself time to prepare, you’ll have more time to research low-cost alternatives and shop around for the best quotes on movers and trucks.

Pick up second-hand moving supplies

Using second-hand moving supplies is both an ecological and economical moving tip. Brand new moving supplies are expensive and completely unnecessary. People are always offering up gently-used moving supplies on websites like Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji for free. You can also ask your local grocery store or restaurant if they have any extra boxes you could have. Leading up to your move, put aside any bubble wrap, packing peanuts, or newspaper from your mail to use for packing fragile items.
